MY INVENTION THAT MADE PEACE WITH LIONS
Richard Turere is a young Kenyan man from Kitengela, a farming community on the edge of Nairobi National Park.
Since the age of nine, Turere has helped to look after his family's cattle, which the family keeps in a cowshed. In his free time, Turere enjoys playing with electronics. As a child, he began making his own inventions. He made fans for car parts and other items. He also built other electronic devices for his neighbors.
At the age of 13, Turere invented something that changed his life. It also changed the lives of many in his community. One night, a lion from the neighboring park came into his family's farm and killed one of their cows. Turere was angry. However, killing the lion, he thought, was not the best way to solve the problem. Instead he decided to invent a solution.
1. As a child, how did Turere help his family?
2. What is Turere interested in?
3. What made Turere angry when he was 13?
